From the perspectives of economic development, energy transformation, and resource security, China's demand for energy continues to rise in the long-term development process, and the proportion of natural gas consumption will also continue to increase. The current status and characteristics of LNG storage tanks
The proportion of natural gas consumption has been increasing year by year, accelerating the construction of LNG receiving stations and continuously increasing the number of LNG storage tanks. At present, although LNG storage tanks are developing well, there is a lack of research on ultra-large storage tanks, making it difficult to achieve engineering construction. This also necessitates that we strengthen research on LNG storage tanks to promote their development.
Requirements for large liquefied natural gas storage tanks
For large liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks, safety is of utmost importance. LNG stored in these tanks is in the form of cryogenic liquid, with a large storage capacity. In the event of an accident, a large amount of cryogenic liquid could vaporize into the atmospheric environment, potentially forming an instantaneous gas cloud that could spontaneously detonate, posing great danger. Therefore, in the design and construction of large LNG storage tanks, it is imperative to strictly adhere to the requirements of specifications such as EN14620 and API. The tank structure is designed as a double-layered one to ensure the safety of its application.
In addition, the internal tank wall material of large liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks must possess sufficient low-temperature resistance, while the external tank wall should exhibit high tensile strength. The tank body must have high cold insulation performance and pressure bearing capacity, and the maximum temperature difference between the inside and outside of the tank should be controlled at around 200℃. Furthermore, to ensure that large LNG storage tanks avoid collapse, cracking, or other issues under specific seismic loads, site surveys and geological investigations must be conducted during design. It is essential to avoid constructing LNG storage tanks in earthquake zones. During the manufacturing and construction process, corresponding seismic tests must be carried out to ensure seismic resistance.
